Hands Across Borders event

Glacier National Park, Montana, USA, will host Hands Across Borders – An international workshop on transboundary conservation from 13-18 September 2016. This unique event is being organised on the 100th anniversary of the US National Park Service to celebrate transboundary conservation worldwide. The week-long event includes a three-day workshop for transboundary conservation practitioners, field trips in Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, and the 84th Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park Assembly.

The three-day workshop for practitioners will gather about 50 people from more than 40 transboundary conservation initiatives to build and share knowledge and information, foster relationships and build capacity to enable and sustain transboundary conservation efforts. The workshop builds on the IUCN WCPA’s Best Practice Protected Area Guidelines Transboundary Conservation: a systematic and integrated approach (2015) and involves experts from WCPA’s Transboundary Conservation Group as facilitators, as well as some of the participants.

The whole event is made possible via partnership between US National Park Service Parks Canada, University of Montana, IUCN WCPA Transboundary Conservation Group, International Peace Park Expeditions, Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park Association, Glacier National Park Conservancy, Calgary Foundation, Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative, and many sponsors.
